Context and objectives

Work-based vocational training (also called "sandwich training" or "alternate training" is organised in the form of periods in a school or in a training center as well as other periods at the workplace in a company.

TRANSNATIONAL work-based vocational training is organised in the form of periods in a school or in a training center OF A COUNTRY as well as other periods structured in a company OF ANOTHER COUNTRY.

The development of European work-based training constitutes one of the main objectives of the European policy concerning vocational training.

When the alternation between school and companies takes place into a transnational framework, the educators- particularly the in-company tutors - who train the students, apprentices or adult trainees during their time in the work placement are in need of extra specific training.
They have to know how to take into account and deal with the intercultural aspects of the relationship between the trainers, the tutors and the trainees, in particular the differences between the professional cultures and the companies' cultures of their respective countries.
They equally must possess reciprocal knowledge of their vocational training systems, of the pedagogical methods used on each part, of the usual work rhythm and conditions in both countries, of the main aspects of lifestyle and standards of living, of both of their communication code, of their predominant values.

The main objective of the project TUTOR-RING is to answer these specific needs.

Outcomes

TUTOR-RING is both:

  • a training tool aimed at in-company tutors involved in transnational work based training
  • a collaborative work tool aimed at everyone involved into transnational work based training (trainers, tutors, trainees,...)
Its main outcomes are:
a Tutors' training module
an online training module (e-learning) for in-company tutors involved in transnational work based training, in the shape of interactive case studies whose objective is to to make them more capable of taking into account and dealing with the intercultural dimension of their relationship with the trainees in transnational training situations, particularly about the differences between the professional cultures and the companies' cultures of their respective countries.
 
a Network collaborative workspace
a shared online workspace to help trainers, tutors and trainees involved together in a transnational work-based vocational training to keep in close contact and to work together during the periods in the training centre and the periods at the work place in a company abroad.

Beneficiaries
TUTOR-RING is aimed at:
  • the companies, organizations and training institutions which organise transnational vocational training through work-based courses for their apprentices, pupils, students or adult trainees
  • all the persons involved in these work-based training:
  • the in-company tutors - specified as everyone who is in charge to help, inform, guide and follow the trainees during their training periods in the company and staying in close relationship with the teachers/ trainers of the training institutions which set up that training
  • those school and training centres teachers and trainers who have to maintain close relationship with the tutors
  • the final beneficiaries of transnational work-based training ( the young people at initial training or the adults at on-going training ).

The modules will be available in 11 languages :
